Enhancing Children’s Wellbeing Through Artificial Intelligence - Using AI for Good

Discover how BounceTogether and The University of Salford are using AI to revolutionise student wellbeing in schools, providing real-time insights to support mental health and proactive interventions.

In an exciting, new collaboration, BounceTogether and The University of Salford have joined forces to help schools monitor and support the emotional health and wellbeing of their students more effectively.

AI-Powered Wellbeing Support in Schools

Since its launch in 2019, BounceTogether has been dedicated to placing wellbeing at the heart of education. Their innovative survey platform allows schools to measure and monitor the physical and mental wellbeing of pupils, staff, and parents. To take this mission to the next level, they partnered with The University of Salford, aiming to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) into their platform to enhance how schools interpret and act on wellbeing data.

By incorporating AI, BounceTogether hopes to revolutionise the way schools analyse their survey results. The technology will generate interpretable, natural-language summaries, simplifying the process of digesting data and making informed decisions. This transformation will enable schools to:

  • Identify trends: AI will highlight patterns in emotional health and wellbeing over time, offering insights into how students are feeling.
  • Act proactively: By detecting early warning signs of mental health challenges, schools can provide timely interventions and reduce safeguarding incidents.
  • Focus resources effectively: Data-driven insights will help schools allocate support where it will have the greatest impact.

This innovation will serve as the missing link in capturing student voices, offering educators a deeper understanding of children’s thoughts and feelings. With the expertise of The University of Salford’s Data Science & AI Hub, this project will reshape how schools collect, interpret, and act on wellbeing data - enabling better decisions that truly reflect each child’s needs.

A Future of Proactive Wellbeing Support

Bob Wilkinson, Managing Director at BounceTogether (Connect on LinkedIn), expressed his enthusiasm for this initiative:

“This initial phase with Salford is just the beginning. We are laying the foundation for a future where schools can continuously and seamlessly adapt to their students' needs, making more personalised choices about how each child’s emotional health and wellbeing is supported and navigated. By combining this crucial insight with other data, educators can become truly proactive, gaining foresight into potential challenges before they arise.”

Dr. Azadeh Mohammadi (Connect on LinkedIn), from The University of Salford’s Data Science & AI Hub, elaborated on the project’s impact:

“This project will focus on summarising and deriving insights from the questionnaires collected from students across the platform. By providing a clear and concise synthesis of the data, this solution will facilitate a deeper understanding of students’ mental health status, patterns, and concerns. The insights generated will empower educators, administrators, and mental health professionals to make informed decisions regarding intervention strategies and support services.”

By leveraging AI, this collaboration between BounceTogether and The University of Salford is setting a new standard for mental health support in schools. The initiative ensures that every child’s voice is heard and acted upon, fostering a healthier, more supportive educational environment for future generations.
